[1] Iowa Attorney General Files Application for Further Review of Iowa Appeals Court Decision Overturning Sexual Misconduct Convictions of Former URCNA Pastor Patrick Edouard
An 11 December 2013 Journal Express article titled “State Files Application for Further Review” reports that the Iowa Attorney General's Office on 10 December 2013 filed an application for further review with the Iowa Supreme Court regarding the Iowa Court of Appeals’ recent decision to nullify several sexual misconduct convictions against former pastor Patrick Edouard.
Edouard was the pastor of Covenant Reformed Church (United Reformed Churches in North America (URCNA)) in Pella, Iowa. He had been convicted of three counts of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist, and one count of entering into a pattern/scheme of exploitation by a therapist.
The Iowa Court of Appeals overturned the verdicts saying that the jury instructions were not provided regarding what was and was not a “counselor” as defined by the applicable statutes, and that Edouard was denied the testimony of an expert witness who should have been allowed to testify.

[4] Archbishop Desmund Tutu Laments Exclusion of Dutch Reformed Church and Afrikaners from Nelson Mandela's Memorial Funeral Services
IAfrica.com reported 17 December 2013 that Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu stated that the Dutch Reformed Church should have been part of the interfaith ceremony at Nelson Mandela's memorial funeral services.
The retired archbishop apologized to the Afrikaner community, saying that Mandela had strived to ensure that the Afrikaners continued to feel that they are a part of South Africa.
Tutu commended the organizers of the memorial activities for Mandela, but said that the organizers should not have been limited to members of the African national Congress.
