[1] Happy Reformation Day plus 495 Years

31 October 2012 marks the 495th anniversary of the posting by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther of the ninety-five theses upon the door of the cathedral in Wittenberg,
Germany, beginning the Protestant Reformation. Dr. Luther’s posted theses were posted as an invitation to his seminary students to debate the biblical fidelity or not of issues related to the sale of indulgences by the Roman Catholic Church. Luther had no idea of the firestorm to be kindled by this action that shook the foundations of the church and called her back to God after centuries of darkness.

Today additionally marks the fourth anniversary of the rebirth of the Christian Observer on 31 October 2008 as an Internet publication after the now 199-year-old publication had ceased printed publication in mid-2007 due to the increasing costs of printing and postage. The Christian Observer staff too pauses to remember the passing of the Rev. Dr. Edwin P. Elliott Jr., Publisher, Editor Emeritus and Edwin’s mother Mrs. Ellen L.B. Elliott, Edwin’s wife Anne Elliott, and Anne’s mother Mrs. Lucy Brisbois who, beginning with Edwin in October 2009, have all left this fallen world and are now in the arms of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

May God send his Holy Spirit upon this crooked and perverse nation and world, to fill his elect and call them to repentance, revival, and a new spirit of Full Bible Reformation, and that Jesus Christ will be proclaimed by all nations and peoples as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

[2] Confiscation of Property of St. George’s Tron Church in Glasgow, Scotland, by the Church of Scotland Liable to Wreck Established Ministry to Glasgow’s Needy

A 26 October 2012 The Herald article by Brian Donnelly titled “Those In Need Will Suffer if We Are Evicted” reports that the members of St. George's Tron Church in Glasgow [Editor’s Note: Not
Edinburgh as was reported in an earlier PW issue. Thank you, as always, J.M.], Scotland, are concerned that the church’s ministry to addicts, alcoholics, asylum seekers and immigrants from all over the world may be destroyed if the Church of Scotland prevails in the Kirk’s efforts to confiscate the church buildings and monetary assets of the church and evict the congregation.

The St. George's Tron Church congregation recently quit the
Church of Scotland over the issue of the ordination of homosexuals. The Kirk has already rejected an offer of UK£1 million in exchange for letting the congregation keep their church property.

Mitt Romney's Great Lie the Media and Christians are Ignoring

Bill Keller, Internet Evangelist and the founder of Liveprayer.com, on 22 October 2012 wrote:

“Mitt Romney lies every time he calls himself a Christian and the media and true Christians ignore it!

“Up front, this is in no way an endorsement for President Obama since I don't tell people who to or not to vote for. I was one of the first in the media in 2007 to warn people who then, Senator Obama was, and shared that if he was elected President in 2008 it would be a form of God's judgment on this nation for our sins. According to the Book of James, Chapter 4 Verse 4, President Obama is an enemy of God in every sense of the word. As I warned and has come to pass, he has been the most pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-enemy of Israel president in history. President Obama opposes God on every major spiritual issue of the day.

“This is also not about politics. This is about spiritual issues, which are the real problems our nation faces. Mitt Romney and those in his cult like Glenn Back, LIE every time they call themselves Christian. Mormon doctrine is clearly 100 percent inconsistent with Biblical Christianity. While they claim they are Christians because the name of their cult is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that doesn't make them Christians any more than if they called themselves giraffes would make them giraffes!

“Mitt Romney and all Mormon men believe that if they follow the beliefs of their cult during this life, upon death they will become the "god" of their own planet. That is why when Romney and Mormons speak of "god," it is NOT the God of the Bible Christians believe in, but a "god" who was once a man and ascended to become "god" of this planet.

“Mitt Romney and those in his cult talk about having faith in Jesus, but the "jesus" they believe in is NOT a deity as the Bible teaches. Their jesus is also the brother of Lucifer who will return one day to Independence, Missouri, instead of the Mount of Olives as the Bible teaches. As for true Biblical Christians, Romney and those in their cult believe that they are lost and inferior.

“In regards to the Bible, those in the Mormon cult supersede God's Word which true Christians believe represents Absolute Truth and cannot be added or taken away from, with the writings of their cult's documented con artist, pedophile, polygamist, racist, and murdering founder Joseph Smith. Those writings include The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrines and Covenants. These writings and NOT the Bible that they believe is flawed, form the authority Mormons put their faith in.

“Regarding women, Romney and those in the Mormon cult believe like Muslims, that women are inferior to men. Mormon women have ZERO spiritual authority. As a matter of fact, an eleven-year-old male in the Mormon cult has more spiritual authority than a mature woman. Mitt Romney and men in the Mormon cult have a special name for their wife/wives that only the two of them know. That is because upon death, a Mormon woman can only get into the Mormon version of heaven by their husband calling them by that special name.

“Once in their version of heaven, a woman will be one of many wives since Mormons still believe in polygamy, even though most have abandoned the practice to become more acceptable by the culture. In the Mormon version of the afterlife, women will all be eternal incubators, creating "spirit babies" that Mormons believe will populate their "planet" that they have been given to rule as "god."

“The reason the media can't figure out why Mitt Romney seems like someone living in the '50s, why he seems a bit "off," is because they don't understand the beliefs that guide Romney and those in their cult. Since his college days at [Brigham Young University], Romney was called by close friends "the chosen one." This is a reference to the White Horse Prophecy he and all Mormons believe in, that says the nation will be in a state of chaos. During that time of chaos, they believe a Mormon will be elected President, set aside the [U.S.] Constitution, and enact a Mormon theocracy.

“Of course, if you challenge a Mormon about their beliefs, they will LIE that this is not what they believe. In Mormonism, it is called "lying for the Lord," which teaches them that it is okay to lie about their true beliefs in order to advance the agenda of their cult. This is why when asked about their secretive "temple rituals" their founder Smith plagiarized from the [Masons], Mormons will tell you they are sacred and not secret, to keep people from knowing about their blood oaths to the Mormon cult above everything else, or the role playing that includes worshipping Satan.

“Mitt Romney, Glenn Beck, and those in the Mormon cult LIE every time they claim to be a Christian. The fact is, because of their beliefs that they will deny if confronted with them, a Mormon is no more a Christian than a Muslim is. Why won't the media challenge Mitt Romney on this issue? Worse, why do true Biblical Christians allow him and those in his cult to get away with such a LIE???”

[2] Kingdoms Apart: Engaging the Two Kingdoms Perspective Published by P&R Publishing

P&R Publishing Company has published Kingdoms Apart: Engaging the Two Kingdoms Perspective, by Ryan C. McIlhenny, in which Neo-Calvinist scholars address issues on which they differ with Two Kingdoms supporters, such as the nature and extent of Christ's kingdom, the idea of Christian culture, cosmic redemption, the cultural mandate, natural law, and common grace.

Michael A. Milton of Reformed Theological Seminary says of this book: “I have prayed for wise and courageous scholars to step up—and step into—this fraternal debate within the Reformed Christian community concerning Two Kingdoms. I am praising God, therefore, for . . . Kingdoms Apart.”

[2] Korean Association of Women Theologians wins Swiss prize

An association of feminist Korean theologians has been selected to receive an international prize awarded by women of the Swiss Reformed Churches to organizations or individuals who promote the role of women as church leaders.

The Korean Association of Women Theologians (KAWT) was chosen to receive the Sylvia Michel Prize granted by the women presidents of the Reformed Churches in Switzerland in cooperation with the World Communion of Reformed Churches. The prize is named after the first woman president of a European church executive and is awarded biennially.

The award for 2013 goes to KAWT in recognition of its support for the study of theology from a feminist perspective and its promotion of the full participation of women in churches in South Korea. The association has roots in initiatives for peace, reunification, and human rights on the Korean peninsula.

KAWT’s 350 members and 150 associate members include ordained pastors, academics and church-based women who serve the practical needs of women. The association promotes the full participation of women in church structures and encourages the study and recognition of feminist theology in the church.

The association was founded in 1980 by pioneering Reformed church theologian Soon Kyung Park (89). Park served as a professor at Korea’s Ewha Women’s University for twenty-two years while overseeing the work of KAWT. Her work focuses on liberation theology – an approach to Christian doctrine that favours the needs and protection of the most vulnerable people in society – and its connection to Korean concepts of suffering (Minjung) and of national self-determination (Minjok). Park is known for her support of reunification of the Korean peninsula, a stance for which she was jailed for over three months in 1991.

KAWT will use the US$5000 prize money to publish an English-language version of the history of the organization in time for the publication to be launched at the assembly of the World Council of Churches scheduled to be held in Busan, South Korea from 30 October to 8 November, 2013.

Park will travel to Geneva, Switzerland to receive the award on behalf of the association on 10 March 2013.

[3] Former Employee of First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, West Virginia Sues Church for Termination for Reporting Theft by Another Employee

A 16 October 2012 article by Kyla Asbury in The West Virginia Record titled “Former Employee Says Church Wrongly Fired Him” reports that Ricky Edward Jordan, who was employed by the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston,
West Virginia between August 2011 and June 2012, is suing the church for wrongful termination because Mr. Jordan had reported that his supervisor was stealing items from the church storeroom and hiding them under a blanket in the supervisor’s car.

Mr. Jordan says that he had been told by other employees before his firing not to report the thefts, and that after his firing another employee told Jordan that the church business manager told other church employees not to speak to Mr. Jordan or that they too would be fired.

Mr. Jordan is seeking compensatory and punitive damages from the suit, which is being processed in the Kanawha County (
West Virginia) Circuit Court.
