[1] Free Church of Scotland Minister Calls Proposed Organ Donation Opt-Out Scheme Akin to Tax Imposed by State
A 29 September 2014 The Herald article titled “Free Church of Scotland Minister: Organ Donation Opt-Out System Akin to Tax Imposed by the State” reports that Free Church of Scotland (FCS) minister the Rev. Dr. Donald MacDonald, a former surgeon, says that Labour MSP Anne McTaggart’s proposed Organ and Tissue Donation Bill to require a person to opt-out of donating their organs after death means in effect "that the state claims to have ownership of our bodies after death unless we consciously reject this while alive".
Dr. MacDonald says that the FCS supports organ donation, but that "donation should always be on the basis of a deliberate, well-informed, voluntary decision".

[2] Bobby Schuller Named Lead Pastor of Shepherd's Grove Church and Host of New 'Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller'
Bobby Schuller, grandson of Robert H. Schuller, has been named lead pastor and CEO of Shepherd's Grove church () and host of the renamed and reformatted "Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller" television program (www.hourofpower.org), which will launch Oct. 5.
Shepherd's Grove is the new name of Schuller's church and congregation, which moved to a new location after selling the iconic Crystal Cathedral building and campus to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County, California.
The ministry, founded by Schuller's grandfather, began as Garden Grove Community Church at the Orange Drive-in Theatre in 1955, soon adding a 300-seat chapel four miles away. It later expanded to the larger campus. As the ministry grew, in 1970 the "Hour of Power" television program launched and aired in all 50 states by 1975. The program eventually became the most-watched religious program in the world, reaching 17 million viewers. The Crystal Cathedral was completed in 1980.
The ministry, which grew and thrived for many decades, was affected in time by an aging viewership and competing Christian programming. Carrying a $60-million debt, the organization filed for bankruptcy in 2010. Except for one pending case, all parties were paid in full, and the ministry is now debt-free.
Schuller graduated from Oral Roberts University in 2003 and received his Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2008. He founded the Tree of Life Community in Garden Grove, Calif., in 2008 and is a commissioned pastor of the Reformed Church in America.
Shepherd's Grove remains a Reformed Church in America congregation. The church utilizes a Presbyterian style of governance, which was put in place to maintain transparency and public trust during its bankruptcy. Tree of Life Community also is governed by a board elected by the congregation.

The Rt. Rev. Andrew Norton is the new Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand. He begins his two year term from 4 October 2014. Andrew has been the mission leader of St. Columba Presbyterian Church at Botany Downs, Auckland, New Zealand since 1999; prior to that he was the minister of Glenfield-Albany Presbyterian Church on Auckland’s North Shore, and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Invercargill.
He has served the Church in various capacities at local, regional and national levels. He has served as chairman of Press Go, which resources new mission ventures throughout the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. He has also been moderator of the Auckland Presbytery; part of the team that established the Northern Presbytery; and he was instrumental in establishing a partnership between the Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar.
As Moderator, Andrew says he will seek to encourage and develop leadership within the church.
“I will provide the type of leadership which navigates the uncharted waters of the future. The Church is facing shock waves of enormous change and to lead in this context will require prophetic courage, poetic insight, professional ability, pastoral compassion and practical love.”
Andrew is married to Sue and has four adult children.
The Rt. Rev. Andrew Norton will be installed as Moderator at the beginning of the General Assembly 2014, at Saint Kentigern College, Pakuranga, Auckland. The service involves the transfer of a ceremonial cloak (Te Korowai Tapu) and the laying on of hands by past Moderators.
The Presbyterian Church is the third largest denomination in Aotearoa New Zealand, with more than 300,000 people identifying as Presbyterian in the 20013 Census, and 30,000 regular church attenders.
