“But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.” [Ezekiel 33:6]

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12]

[Late Breaking]

The editor receives text messages and emails for things such as traffic alerts and severe weather from the emergency management people for Rockbridge County, Virginia, which includes the current home of the Christian Observer - Lexington, Virginia.

At 9:12 p.m. EDT the evening of 21 April 2015 as the editor prepared the 22 April 2015 issue of Presbyterians Week, the following email message was received from said emergency management folks:

“Be advised there is a large military training exercise taking place in the County [of Rockbridge], [the] City of Lexington and [the] City of Buena Vista tonight. Do not be alarmed to low flying aircraft and or emergency crew presence. Please do not call 911 to report them in the area. There is NO THREAT to public safety….

“Sent…to Residents of [the] City of Buena Vista, Residents of [the] City of Lexington, Rockbridge County Residents, Town of Glasgow Residents…”

Rockbridge County, Virginia, is in the mountains of western Virginia, and is one of the most sparsely populated counties in the Commonwealth.

The editor wonders if some of the participants in the upcoming Jade Helm (http://www.wnd.com/2015/04/military-ops-on-u-s-soil-raise-martial-law-fears/) military exercises jumped the gun by a few weeks and by 2000 or so miles.

[2] Free Church of Scotland Moderator-Elect Says “The Church of Scotland Is Literally Dying”

A 20 April 2015 Press and Journal article by Rita Campbell titled “Free Church Moderator: “The Church of Scotland is Literally Dying” reports that Free Church of Scotland moderator-elect the Rev. David Robertson states that the Church of Scotland is “literally dying” and is in a state of “theological and moral decline” because of dwindling congregations, the departure of ministers, and confusion over issues such as homosexual marriage.

Kirk leaders disagree, saying that Robertson’s assessment bears little resemblance to reality.

[3] Ghana’s Deputy Eastern Regional Minister Commends Presbyterian Church of Ghana at 43rd Stated Meeting of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery

A 20 April 2015 Ghana Broadcasting Corporation article titled “Presbyterian Church of Ghana Commended for Track Record in Discipline” reports that at the 43rd stated meeting of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Ghana’s Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, commended the PCG for its track record in discipline as well as its contribution to the social, economic, health and educational development of the Country.

Frimpong called on the PCG clergy to use their authority to help curb social cankers such as indiscipline, immorality, moral decadence and corruption among the youth in Ghana.

At the same presbytery meeting in East Akyem, Ghana, Member of Parliament for the area, Gifty Klenam, “urged the congregation to desist from exhibiting political colours and come together to pray for the Government in power, as the wellbeing of the economy will reflect in the lives of Ghanaians.”

[1] First Presbyterian Church in New Orleans, Louisiana Hosts Planned Parenthood “Stand for Women” Rally in Church Sanctuary

First Presbyterian Church (Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)) of New Orleans, Louisiana on 7 March 2015 hosted in the church sanctuary Planned Parenthood’s “Stand for Women” rally in support of abortion.

At the rally, city councilwomen LaToya Cantrell and Susan Guidry, along with doctors, student activists, religious leaders and Planned Parenthood leaders all discussed the “benefits” a Planned Parenthood center would provide for the New Orleans community.

YouTube videos from the rally are located here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=76&v=HAVsUQT0_Ec

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNMIrCJC5F0

The editor notes the sick irony on the “Stand with Louisiana Women!” Tumblr web page announcing the rally that at the top of the web page reads:

“You all up in the Chocolate City, ya 'eard?”

Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S. was founded by eugenicist Margaret Sanger who spoke of sterilizing those she designated as "unfit," a plan she said would be the “salvation of American civilization.” One of the major groups Sanger considered “unfit” was black Americans.

The website Black Genocide says:

“Minority women constitute only about thirteen percent of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately thirty-six percent of the abortions.

“According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than five times as likely as white women to have an abortion

“On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

“This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."”

[2] PCUSA Stalls California Korean Church’s Vote to Leave Denomination

An 8 April 2015 The Christian Post article by Michael Gryboski reports that the San Gabriel Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), a year after the congregation overwhelmingly voted to leave the denomination because of its growing acceptance of homosexuality and homosexual marriage, has not finalized Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church of Rowland Heights, California’s dismissal.

According to the San Gabriel Presbytery ‘s Gracious Dismissal Policy, if seventy-five percent or more of a church congregation votes to be dismissed from the presbytery to join another body, the presbytery is to vote regarding the congregation's dismissal in its next meeting.

[3] Free Church of Scotland Moderator-Elect Says Scotland’s Politicians Are Blind or Too Cowardly to Address Dangers of Islamic Political Theology

An 8 April 2015 Press and Journal article by Cameron Brooks titled “Free Church Minister Clashes with Politicians over Islam” reports that Free Church of Scotland Moderator-Elect the Rev. David Robertson is saying that regarding Scotland’s politicians, that addressing concerns over Islam is more important than dealing with the economy, independence and the National Health Service. Robertson says the politicians are “blind or too cowardly,” to address the dangers of Islam. Robertson continued, saying:

“The subject that dare not speak its name, [which] politicians avoid like the plague, is Islam.

“The narrative is that Islam is the same as Christianity, that Islamic State and others are just fundamentalists who are not really part of the ‘religion of peace’, and that Christians have their own Islamic State equivalents.

“All untrue but the main point is that mainstream Islam does not, and cannot, fit in with the worldview and doctrines of our liberal secularists.”

[1] 34,000 Black Churches Break Ties with Presbyterian Church USA

A 27 March 2015 Charisma News article by Anthony Evans titled “34,000 Black Churches Break Ties With Presbyterian Church USA” reports that the National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African-Americans, has broken fellowship with the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) because of the PCUSA’s recent ratification of a constitutional change to the definition of marriage that allows for homosexual marriages.

NBCI President the Rev. Anthony Evans commented:

"NBCI and its membership base are simply standing on the Word of God within the mind of Christ. We urge our brother and sisters of the PCUSA to repent and be restored to fellowship."

"PCUSA's manipulation represents a universal sin against the entire church and its members. With this action, PCUSA can no longer base its teachings on 2,000 years of Christian scripture and tradition, and call itself a Christian entity in the body of Christ. It has forsaken its right by this single wrong act.

"Apostle Paul warns us about this when he declared in Galatians 1:8 that there are those who will preach another gospel.

"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. ... For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

"No church has the right to change the Word of God. By voting to redefine marriage PCUSA automatically forfeits Christ's saving grace. There is always redemption in the body of Christ through confession of faith and adhering to Holy Scripture.

"In this case, PCUSA deliberately voted to change the Word of God and the interpretation of holy marriage between one man and one woman. This is why we must break fellowship with them and urge the entire Christendom to do so as well."

[2] National Synod of Scotland of the United Reformed Church Votes to Divests from Fossil Fuels

The National Synod of Scotland - United Reformed Church (URC) at their 2015 General Synod meeting at the Scottish Police College in Fife, Scotland, made the decision to divest from fossil fuels and agreed that no further investment in fossil fuels shall take place.

Welcoming the decision, the Rev. John Humphreys, Moderator of the URC’s National Synod of Scotland, said:

“I’m delighted that the synod has shown a clear commitment to ethical investment – they have taken affirmative action against climate change and put people and the planet at the heart of their financial decision making.

“Rising temperatures and sea levels, severe storms, droughts and floods will inevitably lead to the displacement and endangering of billions of people and the loss of lives.

“Many others, particularly the poorest, will lose all they have.

“We hope and pray that other churches will feel able to respond ethically to the growing threat of catastrophic climate change.”

Two thirds of the world’s fossil fuel reserves need to stay in the ground to prevent catastrophic climate change, yet companies such as Shell and BP plan to extract all of their reserves and continue to explore new ones.

The United Reformed Church National Synod of Scotland will now examine its financial arrangements and ensure that its investments do not endanger creation.

Mark Letcher, coordinator of the Bright Now church divestment campaign, said: “We are delighted that the United Reformed Church in Scotland has taken prophetic action by deciding to disinvest from fossil fuels.

“This marks a huge step forward for the U.K. church divestment campaign, which is gathering momentum as churches around the world disinvest.

“This decision demonstrates the church’s commitment to lead the urgently needed transition away from fossil fuels.

“We call on other U.K. churches to follow them.”

Operation Noah’s Bright Now campaign is calling for U.K. churches to divest from fossil companies, take a leading role in the debate on the ethics of fossil fuel investments, and reinvest in clean energy alternatives.

Dr. Joel McDermon of American Vision on 28 March 2015 published the article “Greg Bahnsen: What Really Happened at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS)”.

Dr. McDermon describes the article as follows:

“What follows are chronicles and supporting documents compiled by Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen during and immediately after his unfortunate and groundless termination at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Jackson, MS, in 1978-79. You will find that common rumors, assumptions, and even recent publications (more on this soon) are demolished by the material collected here. You will also find what must, by any objective review, be considered startling unfairness, evasion of Scripture, bylaws, and rules, and resort to cowardly and unjust attacks and tactics used toward the effort of attacking, censoring, and removing Professor Bahnsen.”
