A 1 January 2016 Church Times article by Tim Wyatt titled “Pact between Churches of England and Scotland Criticised “reports that the Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) is upset over the Colombia Declaration between the Church of Scotland (CoS) and the Church of England (CoE) because the agreement would cause problems between the two episcopal bodies. (See article [2] Church of England and Church of Scotland Forging Pact to Draw Denominations Closer Together in the 23 December 2015 Presbyterians Week).
Concerns include the possibility of CoE members travelling in Scotland preferring to attend a CoS church instead of a SEC church, and discomfort with the Kirk strengthening relations with churches outside of Scotland before doing the same with churches inside Scotland.
The SEC suggests the Colombia Declaration churches consult with the SEC before formalizing the agreement.
